Hello! My name is Donald K. Irmiger III
(Don, please).Donald K. Irmiger III 117 North Taylor Street South Bend IN 46601-1418
I added new pictures to Don's Mom's Shoebox on September 13, 2002!I hold a Certified Computer Professional (CCP) accreditation from the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals and have been a member in good standing since 1991. I received my BS in Computer Science from Indiana University in 1990.
I am employed by Trinity Health as a System Analyst on the Decision Support Services team of Trinity Information Services. Holy Cross Health Employee Profile (300 DPI version:710K)
I am also an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Notre Dame in the Computer Applications second major program, Department of Sociology, School of Arts and Letters. My course is CAPP389: Visual Basic. I teach my class twice weekly during the spring semester.
I am current president, founding member and serve on the board of directors of the Michiana Free-Net Society, a community-based information provider. We offer dial-in access to the Internet and serve as a repository for many personal, community and business web pages. Contact our Executive Director, Karen Shirk at (219)280-4850 for more information.
I am also secretary and serve on the board of directors of the Wings Flying Club, Inc., a not-for-profit cooperative of general aviation pilots interested in low-cost flying. We've been doing this since 1953 and there's no cheaper way to get in the air! We operate 4 fixed-wing Cessna aircraft out of Bendix Field in South Bend with the South Bend Regional Transportation Center (SBN) in South Bend, IN. Drop the club a note if you'd like to learn to fly or more about the club. It's a gas!
As many of you may know, I am a private pilot with almost 400 hours of VFR flight time. I have no current interest in my IFR (instrument) rating right now but view it as a long term goal.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a member and secretary of the Wings Flying Club, a local flight club. My favorite airplanes are N8994V and N9801V, both Cessna 172s and I am particularly fond of night flights. The longest flight I've made so far has been with my son Spud to visit my Dad in Blairsville, GA. It was quite an adventure!
I am also a member of the Experiment Aircraft Association which sponsors a number of worthy aviation activities, one being the Young Eagles program. This program provides free introductory flights to children between the ages of 7 and 17. I'm a volunteer pilot and fly to the greatest urban airport in the country (sorry, Cleveland), Chicago's Merril C. Meigs Field to participate. I can't adequately express how satisfying it is to share the wonder of flight with children: take my word for it, it's great. Click here to review some of my special flights with some wonderful kids.

Another very worthy activity that the EAA sponsors is AirVenture, the second largest airshow in the world held each summer in beautiful Oshkosh, Wisconsin. On August 2 1998, I attended AirVenture for the first time. It was everything I'd heard. Way too much to do in just a day. While there, I had the unique thrill of taking a 1 hour subsonic trip upon a British Airways Concorde. WHAT A RUSH!. I've been back each year since then.
I enjoy visiting a place in northern Brown County that my father bought in the early 1970s. It is a very scenic and primitive place that we call "the Land". One of the first things to happen there was the installation of an earthen dam to create a 3 acre lake. I've been trying to get down there at least once a year to do maintenance such as clearing trees from the dam (the roots could compromise its strength) and clear away any fallen trees from the road. It's a beautiful, albeit primitive, place. I recharge there. Click here for a panoramic view from the top of the dam.
I met Adria Ellen Egbert in 1978 while attending Purdue University where she was studying Horticulture and I was taking stabs at Computer Science. We were married on April 13, 1985. On August 14 1989, our daughter Margaret was born followed on November 8 1992 by our son Donald K. IV (a.k.a. Spud). As a pair they keep us busy.
Also before our children came along, Adria and I were fortunate enough to sponsor a couple of wonderful foreign exchange students. Our first son, Marco Van De Wiel from Tremelo, Belgium was with us during the 1988 school year. We heard most recently that he's working on his Ph.D. at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth. Chasing girls and having fun, we hope. Our second son, Till Pfeiffer came to us from from Aachen, Germany during 1991. We wish him well in Germany. Both Till and Marco spent their senior year at Clay High School here in South Bend. We're very proud of both of our boys.
My father, Donald K. Irmiger Jr. resides in Wilkesboro NC. He has collected a variety of motorcyles and has a interesting opinion of electronic mail. He has however broken down and owns a WebTV appliance. He'll join the 21st century kicking and screaming, if I have anything to say about it. Click on Dad's Trip to Switzerland for a pictoral visit to our family's European origins. My mother, Mary B. Irmiger (she loves me), oldest brother Curtis C. Irmiger and his wife Deb Reutter all live in Minneapolis MN. Curt and Deb have two children now: Charlie and Rachel. Nothing quite like two young children to keep the adrenaline going! My other brother, Ted C. Irmiger served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps. We've heard that he's received his honorable discharge and is working for the U.S. Postal Service. We hear from him as often as we can. My sister Gretchen B. Irmiger and her husband Fred Pottier live in Brooklyn NY with daughter Sophie
